Indian Trail is a town located in
Union County, North Carolina. As of the 2000 census, the town had a total population of 11,905.
Geography
Indian Trail is located at 35°4'12" North, 80°39'16" West (35.069918, -80.654424)1.
According to the United States Census Bureau, the town has a total area of 39.4 km² (15.2 mi²). 39.3 km² (15.2 mi²) of it is land and 0.1 km² (0.04 mi²) of it is water. The total area is 0.26% water.
Demographics
As of the census2 of 2000, there were 11,905 people, 4,299 households, and 3,400 families residing in the town. The population density was 303.0/km² (785.0/mi²). There were 4,581 housing units at an average density of 116.6/km² (302.0/mi²). The racial makeup of the town was 90.90% White, 5.35% African American, 0.53% Native American, 0.96% Asian, 0.09% Pacific Islander, 0.95% from other races, and 1.22% from two or more races. 2.48% of the population were Hispanic or Latino of any race.
There were 4,299 households out of which 44.8% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 65.7% were married couples living together, 9.6% had a female householder with no husband present, and 20.9% were non-families. 16.3% of all households were made up of individuals and 3.8% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 2.77 and the average family size was 3.12.
In the town the population was spread out with 29.9% under the age of 18, 6.4% from 18 to 24, 39.4% from 25 to 44, 18.2% from 45 to 64, and 6.1% who were 65 years of age or older. The median age was 32 years. For every 100 females there were 98.2 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 94.1 males.
The median income for a household in the town was $51,896, and the median income for a family was $55,689. Males had a median income of $37,327 versus $28,062 for females. The per capita income for the town was $20,757. 5.8% of the population and 4.4% of families were below the poverty line. 8.9% of those under the age of 18 and 11.0% of those 65 and older were living below the poverty line.
